Saturday shopping

Another saturday and we are out and about. This just happens to be Chinese New Year's eve. A friend from Seattle, Tim, is also in town and staying with us. We started with Robin wanting some pistachio nuts.
Then we took a look around the wet market in Sheun Wan. I now know where to buy fresh mutton, head and all.

Stopped by the Man Mo temple in Sheun Wan. On the ceilings were these huge coils of burning incense

Needed a snack in the afternoon, so we stopped by a little street shop that sold Kashmir parathas. I had one filled with chicken and Tim had one filled with beef. Robin was tired so she took a break to have a coffee and relax in Langham Place while we wandered the streets of Mongkok

In the evening as we walked toward the temple street night market, Tim was looking to purchase a belt. We found a guy on the sidewalk that had a selection of buckles and belts.

You pick the buckle, then the belt color, and then he puts it together. He measures you, then cuts the leather to size, attaches the buckle, and punches the holes. All this for hk$40 (us$5.12)

We stopped for dinner at one of the temple street sidewalk restaurants. Picked out a fresh fish, and had it steamed

Then had something that I thought was scallops, but texture was more like a clam. This was steamed with black beans. Unfortunately it was overcooked and one of the worst tasting things I've had since being here. Not sure if it was the way they cooked it with black beans, or it being overcooked, or both that made it so bad.

Lastly we ordered some fresh mantis and had it fried with garlic and peppers. Taste was very good, but difficult to eat since the mantis shell is very sharp.

Stopped for dessert at Hui Lau Shan. This is the dessert chain that has my favorite mango and pomelo dessert. This time I ordered it with Mango pudding instead of sago. Tim had black glutinous rice with Mango and a scoop of ice cream.
