In Singapore, they don't ask how you are, they ask "Have you eaten". My kinda place. Singapore is about casual food. One word they all understand and love is
Makan which is the Malay work for "eat" and "food". Singaporean food is a mixture of East and West, China and India, Indonesia, Europe, and many other places. It's hard to tell what type of food you are ordering or eating. A must stop are hawker stalls.

There just happened to be an indoor (that means Air Conditioning) set of hawker stalls across from my hotel. Maybe not the traditional outdoor type, but I just didn't want to walk around in 90deg heat deciding which place to eat at.

Prawn noodles looked good and it had the longest line waiting to order. Plate of noodles $4sgd which is about $2.75 and they cooked it right in front of you.

A sign over one stall featured Singapore fried carrot cake. Sounded interesting so I had to try it. It's steamed rice flour and shredded white radish/turnip cake that's sliced/diced and stirfried with garlic and eggs, green onions, and some chili peppers. The closest thing that it reminded me off was Italian gnocchi which is made from potato. It was good.
