Lamma Island Adventure

This was a much tougher hike. We are still sore and it's been 3 days. Began with everyone meeting at the Aberdeen Pier. Then a short 20min ferry ride across to Lamma Island. This is the island that we can see from our apartment or if you check out the blog photo on the right called "Hong Kong South Island, View from the Peak", you can see Lamma Island in the background.

It was a very foggy day, so the views weren't good. Started at Yung Shue Wan Village and walked about 2 miles to Sok Kwu Wan Village on a paved trail. From there, another mile or so up a trail to the base of mountains. I think there were 2 other small hills we had to climb over before reaching the Mt Stenhouse Summit.

That's the trail behind Robin. We started from as far back as you can see.

The trail was anything but easy. It was thru brush following a path marked by red ribbons hanging in the bushes. Sometimes we followed a path, other times we were climbing thru bushes, over rocks, on all fours, or pulling ourselves along by hanging onto bushes and branches. A very steep climb.

We all made it to the top. Only wish it were a clear day. The elevation change on the last hill was 1100 ft from top to bottom. Now the task was making it back down without injuring ourselves. I must have been the unlucky one in the group because I fell in a couple of bushes and twisted an ankle on the way down. Everyone else made it back safely except for a few scratches from the brush. The entire hike from start to finish took about 3 1/2 hrs.

Of course we were all very hungry when we got back to Yung Shue Wan Village. Had to get some Chinese Seafood.

Started out with razor clams with black bean sauce
Then a very large plate of garlic prawns. By the time I got the camera out, there was only 1 left on the plate. We were so hungry we were eating the garlic off the plate once the prawns were gone.
Fried squid with salt and chili
Large steamed fresh scallops with garlic
Fresh steamed red snapper
Some sauteed pea sprouts with garlic. Also had an order of fried rice
